Hope Space in Iraq

Education for change

Hope Space is a socio-educational program that benefits children at Kawergosk Refugee Camp in Erbil, Kurdistan, Region of Iraq. In this playful space, children aged 4 to 6, can feel safe and free to develop physical, emotional, social, cultural and cognitive aspects through stimulating games and activities.

The Hope Space team is composed of teachers, members of the community, which allows children to be welcomed in their mother tongue, and with the empathy of those who have experienced similar situations and live in the same conditions.

The approach we adopt at the space to mediate the learning is based on the Reggio Emilia and Montessori Approaches. This means that the environment can be the great provoker of learning and figures as the third educator, with the child being the first as the protagonist of the learning process and the great investigator, and the teacher being responsible for mediating this process.
